IT Can Help is a network of volunteers who are able to offer free local computer assistance to disabled people.
In operation since 1994, IT Can Help aims to address the current shortfall in the availability of technical assistance for disabled people using computers.
The programme is funded through the Social Responsibility Committee of BCS, with additional support since 2006/7 from the Marchday Trust and has strong links to AbilityNet, a national charity that assists disabled people who have difficulties using standard computer equipment.
If you are good with computers, we need you! You do not have to be a technical expert. Familiarity as a user with computer hardware and the most commonly used software is enough to enable you to help the vast majority of our clients. What is more important is your ability to communicate and your interest in helping disabled people solve the computer problems they have. We can provide you with support in learning about and dealing with the sort of situations you will find yourself in, so even if you have had no previous experience of working with disabled people, we are still very interested in hearing from you!
Come to our event on October 17th and get involved.
